Do I have to download a darts scoring app?

No. This one runs in the browser and installs from the browser, so there is no app store download and no update to remember. Adding it to your home screen takes about five seconds, and the whole site is around two megabytes that arrive as you use it rather than as a download you wait for.

Does the darts scorer work without internet?

Yes, once you have opened it once. Every dart is written to your own device first and sent on later, so a cellar with no signal changes nothing. If the connection drops mid-leg the scoreboard carries on and nothing is lost.

Yes, and this is one. It is free, there is nothing to buy inside it, and the scoreboard is already running when the page loads. Add it to your home screen and it opens like any other app, with no browser bars and no signal required.

You will see the same thing called a few different names. Scorer, scoreboard, dart counter: they all mean keeping the score so nobody has to do it in their head at the oche. This one counts a dart at a time rather than a visit at a time, which is what makes the rest of it possible.

Tap the Share button, the square with the arrow coming out of it.
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
Tap Add. It appears on your home screen with the other apps.

It has to be Safari. iOS only lets Safari add things to the home screen.

Android

Chrome

Open aimdarts.co.uk in Chrome.
Chrome usually offers to install it. If it does, tap Install.
Otherwise tap the three dots, then Add to Home screen.
Confirm, and it lands in your app drawer.

It opens without the browser bars, so the scoreboard gets the whole screen.

Why it is not in the app stores

Somebody standing at a board wanting to score a leg has to get through a store listing, a download, an update and usually an account before the first dart. That is four things between them and a game of darts, and every one of them is a place to give up.

A web app skips all of it. The address is the app. It updates itself, so there is never a version to install, and it runs the same on an iPhone, an Android phone, a tablet and a laptop without three separate builds going stale at different rates.

The honest trade is that you will not find us by searching the App Store, and a home screen icon takes a few taps rather than one. In exchange nothing stands between landing on the page and throwing.

It keeps scoring with no signal

Plenty of boards live in cellars, garages and clubs with one bar of reception. Every dart is written to your own device first and sent on afterwards, so the connection is never in the way. Drop it mid-leg and the scoreboard does not notice.

Once you have opened the site once, the whole thing is stored on the device, including the games you have not played yet. Turn the phone to aeroplane mode and it still opens.
